Collection: Sophie Lankovsky

Sophie Lankovsky was born in Germany, and began working with clay on arriving in New Zealand in the early 80s. 

Her sculptural pieces (mainly birds) are reminiscent of nature and intended to be tactile and nice to hold. She likes to use more primitive firing methods like raku or sawdust firing, which seem to enhance their organic nature. In contrast she also has strong affinity for functional pots, thrown on the wheel and fired in her electric kiln.

Sophie is in pursuit of beauty in both sculptural and functional forms and it gives her pleasure to think that someone else is enjoying her work.
