The flames took hold on all fronts, there was little we could do

I sat helpless as the flames took hold

Hotspots still remained, but our efforts were rewarded; at a great cost to all

It began so quietly, unnoticed, unassuming. Who could

We gradually gained control as the hotspots subsided

Whole trees exploded into flame; scary

The flames once more took hold as the heat of the morning sun beat down
